I need help with my microphone. Long time ago, i used a plug in jack microphone and plug in jack headphones to play a computer game. Recently, i've tried using the same microphone and it doesnt seem to work no matter what i do. I've looked for numerous microphone help guides online and tried them all. Here's a list of things i did.
I bought a USB headset with a microphone on it which didnt work either.
I bought another plug in jack microphone which also didnt work.
I tried all three, the 2 plug in microphones and the USB headset on another computer and they worked fine on "entertainment > sound recorder".
I went to "control panel > sounds and audio devices" and made sure that the default device was highlighted as the correct hardware i was using ( USB Headset/C-media).
I went to volume control advanced and made sure that microphone was highlighted on both playback and recording and made sure they weren't muted and were at max volume. I just think that my computer doesnt detect a microphone so i'm looking for some help as to why or how to fix it.

Hi again,
I suspect there is something wrong with the sound driver. This controls the MIC and how it works, even if you use a USB MIC. Below is the latest driver for the sound card. Install this and all should be ok.

OK, Lets try this>

Boot with the Windows XP CD and at the Setup Screen press the Enter Key
You will be taken to the Windows XP Licensing Agreement. After reading the agreement press F8 to proceed.
The next screen gives you the option to do a fresh (clean) install or to repair the selected Windows XP installation. To run a Repair Install Press "R" at this time.
***CAUTION*** if you do not see the option to repair the selected Windows XP installation DO NOT choose the option to continue installing a fresh copy without repairing as that will overwrite your data and cause unrecoverable data loss.

Windows XP will copy the necessary files to your Hard Drive to begin the installation and will then reboot. You will see the message that informs you to "Press any key to boot the CD". Do not press any keys this time just wait a few seconds and the Windows Startup Screen will be displayed. Following this you will be greeted by the Windows XP Setup Screens.

When Setup has completed you should find all of your previously installed apps and settings are intact.

If this helps please click accept.
Thanks
Andy
