help loading cd on windows xp to my hard drive

when i go to ad or remove progamsand get to load disk now windows xp tells me that it can    not find hardwhare to dowd load cd

which program are you trying to add/remove (or is it Add Hardware?) , and what is the exact error message you are getting?
