Microsoft office program
Sent to Computer Experts July 09 02:42 AM

I am accustomed to opening Word and Excel files through Windows Explorer by double-clicking the file. Now that I have moved from Windows 98 to WindowsXP Pro, and from Office 97 to Office XP (Word and Excel 2002), I am no longer able to do this. When I double-click the file, the application opens, but the file is unavailable. Help!

What do you mean the file is "unavailable"? Is there an error message?
Also, check the icon that is displayed with the file. Is it a word/excel icon?

Wow. That's weird. The only thing I can offer is right click on any word file, click Open With, select Word, and make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of files" is checked. Click OK and then see if your problem persists.
Oh, and you need to make sure you have all critical updates for Windows installed.
