I have ms office 2003 professional edition on an IBM x40 thinkpad. I attemted to past come info from the internet into a "add comments" space and the document froze up. Other progrms are working and I can open Word in another window but if I try and opent the document I was working on it says it is being edited and is not avaialble. I want to be able to save the document and get it out of the frozen "editing" state an continue working. Is it possible? Can I avoid losing my work? How?

Optional Information:
OS: Windows XP; Browser: IE

Already Tried:
Escape, hybernating and restarting, plus some frustrated key pushing to make something happen. I did not even geta smile

Hi,

If Word refuses to close by clicking on File > Exit, or by clicking on the Close box on the top right corner (small box with an X), then you can force it close as follows:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del keys, then under the Applications tab select 'Document 1 - Microsoft Word' and click the End Task button at the bottom. If that does not do it, click on the Processes tab, and select WINORD.EXE and then click the End Process tab.

As for saving the document, Word should try to recover the last opened document before it froze or was forced to close. However even that is not guaranteed, but without other available choices that is the best you can do.

Hope this helps.

Reply to John D's Post: I appreciate the options to close word but am more interested to save the doc. are there any approaches to saving other than hope that it was captured in the last opened system.
