Hi, I have a 5940 Deskjet, and can''t seem to print addresses on envelopes. I write the letter, addresseee block in typical location, print letter fine, go to Mailings (word 2007) find envelope and adress highlights - envelope then goes halfway in, printer freezes up, orange lights blink. I wind up getting the envelope out by the arrow - no print. If I put paper back in, it will print address like it should. What to do? Bill

Hello,

This is an extremely common problem with the 5940 Deskjet models. Most envelopes are too thick to be fed through the printer, which causes the printer to believe it's jammed, hence the orange light.

My suggestion would be to attempt to use a thinner, or even smaller, envelope as a test. If that works fine, then you may need to use them from here on out. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to assist you further.

Reply to Vincent's Post: I do not have the option for thinner envelopes. Nor do I find on the box "This is a low quality printer and won't print envelopes" - I do not wish to spend more with your firm - please confirm I have not- I assume your further assistance would incur more charges. I guess the 5940 printer is just a bad deal.

Thanks anyway, Bill

The only charges you incurred was the initial deposit on the question. You have not and will not be charged any more, no matter how many responses this question generates.

If you'd like further assistance, I can give you a few more suggestions - however, if you do not wish for me to help further, that's certainly a valid option.

Reply to Vincent's Post: well Vincent, with that in mind I would like to know if there is a solution other than thinner envelopes, which is not an option. I may have experimented with pushing on the envelope - I think it just went as far as I could push, then jammed...

so yes, any other suggestions would be appreciated. Bill

sorry for the delay, I got busy and was out of the office. The envelope draws in about 5 inches, seems like a centered place for printing to start, then processing sounds go silent and the orange lights start flashing and the envelope just sits there. By pressing the arrow the envelope gets ejected teh rest of the way through, no print at all, and the orange lights go off and we are back to normal. I guess we would call that a jam - the envelope comes to a full stop. and thanks for your time - I will get you paid. Bill

I never try to print an envelope with the letter inside it, so I always try with a new unsealed, empty envelope. which would act every bit like an opened envelope - which I just tried with identical results. Is taht what you mean by an opened envelope, one previously mailed to me?

no, but if I put the paper back in it prints it just fine, sideways at the perfect envelope location.
