access a server from the same IP, in and out of the network

I'm trying to set up my small business network so that I can have a client see my internal server (for source code control) from the same IP or named alias from both inside and outside my network.

Currently I have port forwarding enabled on my belkin router. When accessing EXTERNALIP (of the router) from outside the network, it forwards correctly. But accessing EXTERNALIP from *inside* the network doesn't work... it just stops at the router.

is there a way to get around this? Or can I use some sort of VPN or SSH tunnelling and have my client always look at the INTERNALIP?
