Having trouble recording my own voice with Dragon ...

Sent to Computer Experts December 29 06:43 AM

Having trouble recording my own voice with Dragon naturally Speaking. Got the voice recognition training file onto PC; but noticed 2 problems which may be stopping me.

1. The microphone will not work, its controls seem to be permanently immovable in control panel. This may be because of:-

2. I accidentally came upon 'Microsoft Sam', who says I have 'chosen his voice!' I don't remember doing this and there seems to be no way of turning him off.

I hope so much that you can please help as I have been struggling with this since May!

Kind Regards aamd Happy New Year,

Gillian Lyden

Already Tried:
everything needed to do the voice training file. Four different microphones. Control panel;audio;sound-speech;microphone. Nothing works. I think 'Sam' needs turning off? Thanks for responding. Gill

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy),

Thanks for posting on JustAnswer.com. I hope I can help you out with your problem.

Have you ever been able to record sound onto your computer from a microphone? The greyed out controls in the Control Panel usually means that the computer is not recognizing the sound card. If you are sure that you have one, try to go to the website of your comptuer manufactuer (Dell, HP, etc) and download the drivers for the sound card (usually there is a section called Support and Drivers and from there you pick the model of your computer). Install the drivers and then those controls should not be greyed out anymore and you can record your voice.

Let me know what your progress is and I can help more.

I have only been trying to record on PC since I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking in the USA in May

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, but I had to stop and cook dinner etc.
Happy New Year to you and yours. Here's hoping I get success.

Dear Aseem,
We bought the computer from a 'friend' of my partner. He is, in my opimion, being extremely unhelpful. Knowing I am not computer literate, he yet ignores my messages, that is why I have had to try so hard to find out what is the problem elsewhere.

You have confirmed my growing conviction that he is the only person who can help me, as he either owns, or works for the firm which built the PC!

I have not wanted to confront him, but think I must.

Wish me luck!

it has been a privilege to deal with justanswer and with you, as you are all obviously honest, caring people
I shall not forget you, and will probably ask fro help again if I need it!

Very kind regards,
Gill Lyden
