The right kind of processor would depend on your need for the laptop(for what purpose you are going to use it for) . So, some processors are good for high-end applications, whereas for very basic applications, an entry-level processor with little less speed(in GHz) would do.You can find a comparision chart between the various processors available at:

Reply to Harris's Post: i have had several strokes which have rendered my left hand useless - i want to use dragon voice recognition software for all the normal office apps - surfing the web - no games- i learned to use dragon on a p4 3.8 1 gig ram and have been using a celeron since. the difference on the slower machine is very noticable - but the real difference as far as i am concerned is using usb microphone, far superior to the normal sound card route.
