Did you close and choose the option not to save? Or did word 2003 crash and not let you save.

If you closed word and it prompted you to save and chose the option not to save, then your file is gone. There will be no way to restore that file.

If Word crashed then when you restart word it will ask you if you want to rescue your crashed document.

If this helps please hit the accept.

Word will automatically choose to save your files in the "My Documents" folder. It is possible that it was saved automatically.

Word uses the first sentence or group of words to make its file names. Look in your My Documents folder and try and find the file that way.

Also Word has an open Recent feature. Check there, it should be the last file or in the last couple of files that you opened.

If those two things do not yield the file, then I am afraid that it is lost.

Then the file is gone. I am sorry, I know that is not the answer you want, but if file does not appear in those spots, then Word did not save it and you will not be able to restore the file.

If I may, as a last resort, here is a page from Microsoft that explains where 'scratch' and temp copies of Word docs are kept. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211632/EN-US/

Depending on your version of Word, you may still have these files on your PC.

To search for a file, go to 'Search' on your start menu and make sure you check advanced and check 'search hidden files'. Use wildcards i.e. use the asterisk.
