Recording on a Slyvanis VHS/DVD combo

I'm trying to record on a blank VHS tape on my Slyvania VHS/DVD player, but am not doing it right. Lost directions. everything is connected correctly. How do I program it to record. I thought it would be straight forward. Can I obtain directions on line?
