what program opens and plays swf. files?

I am trying to open some kind of file for my wife and it is a swf. file....some kind of audio file she needs for school. I have tried all kinds of flash players to no avail. Windows media player does not work either. I have very limited computer skills and my wifes are even less. I require a very simple self installing program, that will recognize the files and play them......is there such a program?

OS: Windows XP; Browser: Firefox

Already Tried:
I have tried macromedia flash, real player, quicktime, windows media player. I have tried changing the type of file that it is and that is not as easy as i thought, apparently you need a converter (which i dont have) so im out of ideas.
