Sent to Computer Experts September 25 02:56 PM

how do i make a tree-style hierachal index of my "d" drive that will include contents of all files?

Optional Information:
OS: Windows XP; Browser: Firefox

Already Tried:
I have tried Windows Explorer which gives me a good hierarchal view, but only to the folder level. I need it to go to the file level. I have archived folders on my network to a cd and i need to print a directory - perhaps a screenshot - of everything on that cd

Hi and welcome to JustAnswer!

You can easily do this with a program called Printdir. It is available here:

http://www.jefferypsanders.com/PrintDir.html

You can download it for free, but the author also acceprts donations for it. It's well worth the money. This program will print a list of all folders and files in a location specified by you (D for example). If you don't want the list on paper, you can choose "print to file" and it will make text file with the list.

Hope that helps :)

Reply to nick's Post: This did not help. Still, this shows only at the file level. I need, on the left hand side where the directories are, a tree-style index that will go down to the file level. I don't want to have to click on every folder on the left side and print what is in that folder on the right side. I need that left side directory to go all the way down. This is what I got:

d:\Archived Label Documents
d:\Archived PDFs
d:\Archived PowerPoint Files
d:\Archived Publisher Files
d:\Archived QuarkXPress Documents
d:\Archived QuickBooks Files
d:\Archived System Files
d:\Archived Template Files
d:\Archived Text Documents
d:\Archived Word Documents
d:\Archived Word Perfect Documents
d:\Archived ZIP Files
d:\flashmusicplayers
d:\MedAmerica Applications
d:\One-on-One Selling (Sterling)
d:\wwwroot

As you can probably see, each of these folders has many files within them. I need to be able to see those files like this:

d:\Archived Word Documents
    labels.doc
    deposit slips.doc
    license renewals.doc
d:\One-on-One Selling (Sterling)
    salesscript.doc
    images.jpg

Get the picture? I want to have one screenshot or one page that I can file with the cd that gives the entire contents in this hierarchal style. Or any style for that matter - as long as it does this.

I'm unaware of a program that will do all directories recursively. You could end up with a really strange looking chart due to the possibilty of many nested directories. I'll opt out of this question so others can answer if they know of something better. Best of luck to you.

Hi and thanks for using JustAnswer. My name is Chris and I believe I can answer your question.

Here is a program that will do what you want. It is called File Tree Printer.
http://www.008soft.com/products/file-tree-printer.htm

It lists all the files in all the directories from a specified starting point and down. It can list them in a tree view or list view and has options to include the file size and date. It outputs to notepad so the data can be copied to other programs.

It is a free program. You can buy it but I don't know what extra features you get or if the free program is trial or not.

Example Output (Only the begining, rest of data omitted):

C:\
|   AUTOEXEC.BAT
|   boot.ini
|   CONFIG.SYS
|   csb.log
|   divx.log
|   hiberfil.sys
