Sent to Computer Experts May 29 08:57 PM

I am trying to create a "go to" action button to be placed on the first slide of my training courses. When published to my website (www.Customer (name blocked for privacy).com), a returning student can click on the button and select the desired slide number to resume a course. I am converting the PowerPoint presentations with Impatica for PowerPoint. Can you please help me. Thank you. Roy XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Optional Information:
OS: Windows XP; Browser: IE

just can't find that feature in Powerpoint

Hi, you might want to check this link to see if this is what you want to do with your presentation

http://www.geocities.com/lovely_enchantress/sample.html

If yes, just right click on the word/words that you would like to be the one that will be clicked and will lead to the slide that you will specify, then click hyperlink, a dialog box will then appear, if it will lead to a slide within that presentation select place in this document then select the slide number then click ok.

If you wish to use a button rather than just words, click slideshow in the menu bar, then click action button, click custom then drag your mouse within you presentaion slide, a dialog box will appear that will let you specify what the button will do on mouse over or mouse click, choose mouse click, then click hyperlink to and in the dropdown menu choose where will the button lead to then click ok. To add text to your custom button, right click at the button then click add text.

I hope this will help you. If you need further help don't hesitate to approach me.

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Jenny

Thank you for your response. This may work, but I don't understand how to set it up. Please let me try to explain again what I need. I have several courses that run on-line. Currently, the courses have been developed in PowerPoint and run in Internet Explorer just like a PP presentation. When a student stops a course, they note the slide number they're on. When they return, they enter the course the same way as they did originally, move the left slide bar to their desired slide number and then resume their course. However, I am converting the courses in Impatica, and the left side slide number bar is not available as it is in PowerPoint. So, what I'm looking for is an action button that I will put on the 1st slide of each course in Powerpoint that will allow the student to click the button, select the slide number they want and then resume their course at that selected slide number. I can't enter the slide number in this action button ... the student must do that. Could you please explain how I can use this feature that you have suggested. I want to pay you, but I just can't figure out how to use your suggestion. Thank you. Roy

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy),

I suggest you make your first slide like a menu wherein the slide numbers are specified and when a student click a slide number then they will be led to that particular slide number. (example: if they click slide 2 they will be led to slide number 2 of the presentation.)

Here are the steps to do that and an example also. (for example you would like the word slide3 when clicked will lead the student to slide number three of the presentation, assuming you have 3 or more slides in your presentation)

1. Highlight the word/words (example: slide3) that you will use as a hyperlink.

2. Right click on the highlighted word/words then select hyperlink.

3. A dialog box (insert hyperlink dialog box) will then appear, on the left side of the dialog box you will have the following options:

  • Existing File or Web Page
  • Place in this Document - click this, then beside it you can specify the slide number that it will lead your students to. (in our example look for slide number three)
  • Create New Document

4. After selecting the slide number click ok.

That will then make the word slide3 when click will lead your student to slide number three of your presentation.

I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions or clarifications don't gesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Jenny

Reply to jenabriam's Post: Hello Jenny,
Thank you for your efforts. I've considered that option, but our courses range between 200 to 1000 slides and it's not really practical to have a cover page with 500 slide numbers on it. I have decided to keep looking for my solution of a "go to" action button on the first slide of each course. How difficult can that be! That's the words of a non-programmer. Thanks for trying. Roy
