I can't seem to be able to install my HP Photosmart

I can't seem to be able to install my HP Photosmart S20 scanner on my new Toshiba Notebook with Vista.
(Indientally I hate Vista)

 

Already Tried:
TRIED TO INSTALL SCANNER CD - IT SAID i NEEDED WINDOWS nt SERVICE pACK3- I DOWNLOADED IT. THEN IT SAID "fAILED to update the system Registry please try REGEDIT. Dont know nanything about that. HP does not support Vista for this scanner which attached by USB The siftware for the scanner was successfully installed. BUt it does not recignize that the scanner is plugged in. Suggestions?

This is ot a solution to the problem. He told me nothing that I didnt already know.
How about finding someone that can tell me how to make it work.........then Ill gladly pay!
