I am currently working for a small firm who manages a clients network which consists of 4 offices and roughly 400 employees amongst the offices. I am the primary support perworking with mostly hardware and some software issues in the office that the CEO resides in. Although I am not in the office where our datacenter is, I do know how to build 2003 servers and manage Active directory and administer it. I also administer citirix clients as well as exchange 2003 clients. The problem I am having is after 7 years of working for this small consultant firm as an onsite consultant for our client and being the only IT person in this office, I do not know what actual Role or Title I should be classified as. I do not have a degree. I have Technical Support certification as well as MCP for Windows 2000. I do troubleshoot LAN issues and can resource information very well. I need some opinions!!! What title would you give to a person with my experience? I want to see what the salaries currently are

Thank you for your response.

I would like to give you a better understanding as to what I do here and maybe you could help me to better decide on what title I should give to myself.

My day consists of:

Monitoring Symantec Antivirus. If a PC is infected and symantec could not clean or quarantine it, I would remove it immediately from network and reimage it using symantec ghost with an image already built for all our clients.

We work in a citrix environment therefore more issues arise with application hangups and or confusion with the end-user do to not grasping the concept of the shared environment and what the do's and don'ts are. One example would be, "I am frozen in MS Outlook" ok open management console and End Task on the Outlook.exe process for the end-user. A second example would be, "I can not log onto citrix becasue it says I already have another instance of the application running." Ok open management console and log them off from a session currently running.

New employee hire: Create home directory and build their account from our Exchange 2003 AD server. Give them the necessary rights and test their account before releasing them with their credentials needed.

Recently I had an issue where I was able to create a new account however when I logged on and opened MS Outlook for the first time I could not create their profile. It was telling me the name could not be recognized. I looked at the AD account and noticed that the email address was never created on the exchange server. When I checked the rights in the Exchange Advanced tab alot of the OS defaults were missing as well. Ok so off to troubleshooting and within a few minutes found that the RUS was pointing to the wrong domain controller. Problem solved once the RUS was changed to point to the correct DC. Noone however will fess up to who may have changed this and for what reason.

I have been part of building Windows 2003 DC's as well as Citrix Servers.

I build images for all our PC's and laptops

I troubleshoot network connectivity on the LAN side of things.

I take part in recognizing T1 line trouble and opening trouble tickets if need be with AT&T and or Verizon.

I take part in opening tickets for phone trouble as well as moves & changes.

I manage blackberry clients from creating user profile on blackberry Enterprise Server to working directly with Cingular support for the handhelds if need be.

I setup VPN connectivity for remote users and troubleshoot any issues they may have.

I've worked with DSL/Cable routers.

Troubleshoot all printing issues.

troubleshoot all PC issues.

Veritas backup. (troubleshoot hardware issues, install server software, setup jobs)

Now that you have a better idea of things that I do on the job what would you consider me to be?

Thanks for your help!
