I have a PC off lease purchased via eBaY. The Operating System was removed from the PC and I installed WinXP. I ordered Road Runner Cable Internet Services and the technician (if you want to call him that)configured the set up but was unable to connect the modem through the NIC. The connection was able to be completed through the USB port. I believe the reason is that the NIC had already been previously used and configured with an IP address and Subnet mask.

When I do a ipconfig, an old IP address/Subnet appear and I attempt to change them but cannot in the TCP/IP Services (network connection). When I attach the ethernet cable to the NIC, I see that I am connected and receiving information, but the PC is not resetting the IP address and the Road Runner network is truly not established on the PC. When I use the USB, the network is established.

Is there a command that can be used to wipe out an old IP address? Or has anyone experienced this before, how did you fix it?
