I am using Using Microsoft Excel 2002 SP3. With Windows Explorer, I navigate to my excel file and click on it. Excel starts, but I have to select File>Open and find my file again to open it. How do I get Excel to open the worksheet in the file I clicked on (rather than having to open it again after Excel begins)?

Optional Information:
OS: Windows XP; Browser: Firefox

Already Tried:
1. Reading Excel's help (which did not help). 2. Had a friend go to Windows Explorer Tools Menu, select Options then File Types tab. Went down to XLS extention and clicked the Advanced button. Selected Open and clicked the Edit button. Said the /e was on the line and that something else was the problem. 3. Searched through some online Excel training to see if I could figure out what needed to be done. Learned some good things, but not how to deal with this issue.

Option 1:

Right-click on the Excel file, choose Open With, click Choose Program...click Microsoft Excel from the list, check the box 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' and click OK.

If that doesn't help - Option 2:

Go to... Select Tools -> Options -> General tab and Uncheck "Ignore other applications"

Option 3:

Be sure to close the Excel. Go to Windows Start Button -> Run and type "excel /unregserver"
then in similar manner ....Windows Start Button -> Run and type "excel /regserver" ... that will reset some excel registry settings to defaults.

Option 4:

go to Tools -> Options -> General tab and make sure that the "At startup, open all files in:" is empty.

If nothing help - try these suggestions

Reply to Lev's Post: It happens with all excel files.   Also, I forgot to mention that I have done the "repair" option of the re-install for MS Office Professional twice without it affecting the issue at all.

I would like to try the rest of what you mentioned. I would be happy to release the money, especially if one of the suggestions does the trick. I will also be happy to do so even if none of the suggestions work as long as I could still communicate so we can keep trying things until something works. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks!

Reply to Lev's Post: I tried option 3. No difference.
I tried option 4. No difference.
I tried option 1. No difference.
I tried option 2. It worked! Now my spreadsheet files open without requiring me to do another file>open after Excel starts. I have no idea why unchecking "ignore other applications" fixed it, but it did.

Thank you.
