Reply to Eric's Post: I am wanting to move the music and media player to the external drive.

On my system I want to run Windows Media Player on the F: drive (external) instead of the C: This includes riping, saving and playing music from the external drive only. Is this possible to do and how?

I assume I can install other (3rd party) software on the external drive only and it will work normally?

My intention is to have a mobile music collection, and music software, that I can take with me to connect and use with other computers.

I guess I could try this myself but I appreciate that this is a paying gig for you so let me ask this question:

Can I make a duplicate copy of the media player (and all associated files) to the external drive and access it on that drive or will Windows freak out?

I have a part-time gig as a mobile DJ. While I might be chasing my tail, this whole idea is born ouf of a desire to have my complete musical library accessable to me at any time and any where (whitout all the sliver circles). My laptop has a media player but not all computers I might have access to are compatable.

That software you recommended, have you used it or know much about ti.

One easy way would be to download a copy of the media player install package and store it with all my music on the external drive.

That way you have the installer available if th machine yu are using does not already have the latest version installed.

Version 9 for 95/98/ME/2000 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx

And version 11 for XP and Vista http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

By doing this you are looking at 50MB of files you can use on the fly.

To be honest my preferred method for doing this is to use my 120GB Ipod and an ipod Mixer http://www.amazon.com/Ion-IDJ-iPOD-DJ-Mixer/dp/B000AAQZO0 that way I can get a little creative.
