BIOS Upgrade Expert Needed

Sent to Computer Experts January 31 07:32 PM

My BIOS on my Everex NC-1502 Notebook is hosed and needs to be re-flashed.
(When the laptop boots, there are extended characters displayed that I know aren't right ... little hearts, things like that ... and all attempt to re-image the workstation fail with apparent BIOS / transfer errors)
-----
I have the Ultimate Boot CD so I can glean a little information from the BIOS - on boot, it reports:
Phoenix TrustedCore (tm) NB
VIA VN896 (VN896+VT8237A) R11
BIOS Version: 1.oB-2309-8A20
----
I also have the PH1614.EXE flash program, but can not for the life of me figure out how to get the BIOS.WPH file it needs to successfully do this.
---
That's where my BIOS skills end ... anyone able to point me in the right direction to get this stupid BIOS flashed so I can move on with life??

Thanks for any help!

Optional Information:
OS: Other; Browser: Other

Already Tried:
Restoring O/S from original DVD; Failed. Tried finding correct BIOS.WPH file with no luck.

Hi Neil,

If I am correct the Everex 1502 uses the c1c BIOS http://www.everex.com/support/xt5000t/xt5000t_downloads/XT5000T_C1C.zip

You should be able to use this and the Flash program you already have or the one provided in the downlad to relash the BIOS.

Let me know if you need any other files or info.

Thanks.

Eric

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I run the flash file that comes with the package, it begins to run, then stops wtih the error:

Phoenix Phlash16 Error: File has Different BIOS Part number

... at least this one TRIED to do something ... Thoughts?

Hello again,

I have the original restoration DVD in there right now - I'm running in the DOS mode enabled by the Ultimate Boot CD so I can see what's in there ... is there a simple dos command line to do a file search for a particular criteria or extension?

My directories are APPS, BOOT, DRIVERS, EFI, MANUAL, QFE, RECOVERY, SOURCES and WARNING. (in the Recovery folder for instance, I have 5 SWM files, which I will assume are the image files for WinPE to use when restoring)

If it was on there, what am I looking for?

I've searched the DVD on my desktop PC for any *.ROM or *.RO_ files, along with anything beginning with FLASH or close ... damn ... no luck ...

Good Morning,

I ended up contacting their support line ... and even though their version of "support" in Customer Support is sketchy at best, I was able to fax them my original purchase order, and they are going to process an RMA for me to return it for troubleshooting / repair. I didn't know I had a 90 day warranty since it was a re-furb unit - but I did, and apparently the window is still open.

So, back it goes to let them replace the motherboard for me.

Out of professional courtesy, and respect for your time, I will certainly accept your answer! Thank you for all of your time the other day.

Neil
