Sent to Computer Experts March 31 02:30 PM

Using a recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, I have downloaded an executable file from the European Patent Office. I have filled-in the file with the pertinent information, but I am unable to save the filled-in file. When I try to save it, all that gets saved is the executable file -- WITHOUT the information I have filled in. Can you please help me. Thanks in advance. F. C. Hi,

When adobe files or forms are created, the author of that document can control the type of permission the user is allowed to access. For example, the author may choose to block printing of the document, copying, saving, or editing it, etc. In your case try to open other pdf files or forms and if you can print them, then you have no problem with you adobe program or your printer, it is just that you do not have permission to print or save that particular form..

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Reply to John D's Post: I can print out the filled-in filled-in, that still has the stuff in it that I filled-in. But when I save the file (under a different name, of course), this saved file does NOT have the stuff in it that I filled-in. Does something need to be "activated" in AAR so this can be done?

These executable files (forms actually) are MEANT to be filled-in, saved, e-mailed, whatever. Lots of other patent attorneys do just this all the time. What should I do??

Well as I said before if you cannot save the data that you have filled in, then what that means is the author has imposed restrictions on saving changes made to that particular document.

It would help if you can tell me whether or not you can save and print other pdf files!

If you want I can take a look at that particular file for you. Upload it here and send me the download link.

With my AAR on my computer, I can both print and save all my other .pdf files . . . no problems.

A short time ago, I visited an associate of mine who had another stand-alone computer that has Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional on it. On his computer we could download the form, fill it in, save it, print it, etc. I'm trying to find out why I can't save the filled-in form on my computer -- which just had AAR. Please get back to me when you can.
